At first people saw that the Black Death was being carried by travellers on ships that were moving from place to place, but they weren't sure how. But they knew that one, single person could effect a town that held millions.

Many towns, ports and cities sent the ships away and kept travellers away from the towns. The plague moved so fast through all of the towns, the Black Death became uncontrollable. So many people were crowed together in one town so there was lots of rubbish for the rats to feed on that encouraged more rats and animals to spread the disease even further.
